Anthony Gralhien.
We first discovered Anthony’s work through the launch of Occino fragrances, for which he created the visual identity and packaging artwork. Anne immediately fell in love with his universe, and so did I. What captivated us was the vitality and freshness of his paintings, but also the way a distinctly masculine gesture gives life to lush, abundant floral landscapes.
Originally trained as a designer, Anthony carefully observes his surroundings and draws inspiration from nature—particularly flowers—to create vibrant compositions where color, movement, and gesture intertwine. Built through successive layers, his paintings evoke a rich and immersive world in constant transformation.
In his work, one can sense echoes of Matisse and even Hockney, where flourishing nature coexists with architectural elements. These subtle structures remind us of humanity’s place within an almost untamable natural world, while also paying tribute to Anthony’s background in design.
Born in 1990 near Paris and raised in Burgundy, Anthony now lives and works in Dijon. A graduate of the École Supérieure d’Art et de Design d’Orléans (2016), he has developed his artistic practice over the past decade through encounters, experimentation, and a deep passion for painting. Today, his work is gaining increasing visibility through solo and group exhibitions, notably at the Académie du Climat in Paris, FRAC Bourgogne, SEE-Marais Gallery in Paris, Sabrina Lucas Gallery in Nantes, and, of course, here at Subtile.
Energy, bold gestures, and exuberant colours define Anthony’s paintings. We are delighted to present his work once again and to share with you these captivating landscapes where nature unfolds in all its strength and generosity.
