New! Book Club with Bettina Heldenstein, 8/12 @3.30pm

Subtile 21A AVENUE GASTON DIDERICH 1420 LUXEMBOURG
Organized by Catherine Lebrun

Bettina Heldenstein, an art historian at Casino Luxembourg, has introduced a new activity that connects Subtile style with a curated selection of books exploring the themes of inspiration, admiration, and passion. For those who find it challenging to set aside time for reading but always have a stack of books on their nightstand, especially for those who feel frustrated by the lack of time to read and share their thoughts, the idea is to give you the feeling of having read the book and the ability to discuss it without any extensive prep work! And if after the discussion you want to dive deeper, you can always add another book to your collection. 🙂

For the inaugural book club meeting on Sunday, December 8 at 3:30 PM, she has chosen three intriguing titles:

1. To Admire: In Praise of a Feeling That Makes Us Grow

   by Joëlle Zask, philosopher

3. The Emotions That Make Us Who We Are

   by Vinciane Despret, psychologist

Vinciane Despret,

Vinciane Despret,

Admiration = stepping out of your comfort zone

To admire = being inspired and enriched

To admire = learning and gaining deeper insights

According to French philosopher Joëlle Zask, admiration can be a powerful feeling that fosters growth and may even spark a passion or vocation. What about you?

Mona Chollet believes that images are as essential as fresh water for her existence; she draws from them to enhance her self-knowledge. Vinciane Despret emphasizes that our emotions are intertwined with our culture and the societal context in which we live.

This book club aims to be highly interactive and judgment-free, infused with images, readings, and fun questionnaires to stimulate discussion, all within a cozy setting. Drinks and sweets will be provided.

Participation fee: €25.
